“The Earth in Her Hands” with Jennifer Jewell and Sasha Duerr- MARIN ART + GARDEN CENTER

In a time when our gardens – public and private – have come to mean even more to each of us for the food, beauty, health, and nature they offer to us, a new book by Jennifer Jewell, creator and host of public radio’s Cultivating Place, celebrates the global impact contemporary plantswomen have in our world today. The Earth in Her Hands, 75 Extraordinary Women Working in the World of Plants (Timber Press, 2020) is an expansive celebration of women working in the world of plants and transforming our world for the better at the same time.

On October 13th at 5:30 pm Marin Art and Garden Center is pleased to offer a virtual evening of conversation between Jewell and artist/educator Sasha Duerr, one of the 75 extraordinary women profiled in the book. Sasha’s work compellingly connects our human love of color, our natural landscapes, the healing properties of plants, and the ways food, flowers, floral waste, and even invasive plants can be regenerated to create non-toxic natural dyes and pigments to support sustainable fashion, textiles, fine art and and many other creative disciplines. With background on The Earth in Her Hands, and a natural plant-based color demonstration by Duerr, together these two dynamic and inspiring women will explore how we each cultivate the world we want when we put our human love of plants, flowers, and gardens to work addressing some of the issues of greatest concern in our world.
